The Rotary club of Sowerby Bridge (RCoSB) 4th annual Classic Bike and Scooter show returns on Sunday 28th May promising to be bigger and better than before. It takes place between 10.30am and 4pm at The Wharf, Sowerby Bridge (HX6 2AG) and is an absolute must for all bike fans as well as being a great family fun day out. The event now boasts sixteen categories of pre 1980 scooters and bikes, with an additional one this year for post 1980 modern classics and custom bikes. For entry details see www.rotarysowerbybridge.org

Enthusiasts will be excited by one of the star exhibits, a Russian Ice Speedway Bike formally owned by a runner up in the 1994-2002 world championships. This Jawa engine bike has 28mm spikes in the tyres (350 in total) to ensure a grip on ice. It is a spectacle in itself and is not to be missed as this is suspected to be the only one in the country in its current form. This underlines the uniqueness of this event, one of the few of its type in the area, with more classes than any other show.

Additional attractions on the day will include a raffle (with £500 first prize), food stalls, tombola, bike related stalls, a free cinema showing documentaries & films of classic bikes, a display of memorabilia from Bradford and Halifax speedways and to top it all a plethora of ex-speedway riders will be in attendance including past local heroes, British champions and World Championship finalists. A limited number of reserved all day private parking spaces are available at £2.50. These must be pre-booked. The pre-booked parking spaces must be vacated before 5pm on the day. Contact Dave Roberts on 01422 836044 or email internationalss@tiscali.co.uk to reserve your place before they run out.

To help families make this a day out, there is a fun fair running alongside the Classic Bike and Scooter show with child swing chairs, waltzers, side stalls, catering van and a bouncy castle (weather permitting). There will also be donkey rides and face painting, along with a small trampoline, hoopla hoops and an exercise bike with timed rides for the competitive. A real fire engine will also be in attendance with real firemen in uniforms as a treat for the mums! The Old Cawsey car park will host the Second Rotary Club of Sowerby Bridge Car Boot Sale, which is the first of six monthly events.

Entry fee for the Classic Bike and Scooter Show is £5, under 12s are free. Proceeds from the raffle and the event itself go to Rotary charities including Age (UK) Calderdale & Kirklees and Calder Valley Search & Rescue Team (CVRST).
