Ed’s Letter

Same Magazine, New Chapter

Between us, Rachel (who started it) and Jude (who’s helped keep it running), we’ve been part of this magazine for a long time.

Twenty years ago, it began with a lot of enthusiasm and very little idea where it might lead. Ten years ago, Jude joined the business and quickly became a key part of the magazine team. Between cups of coffee, deadlines and the odd last-minute panic, this magazine has grown into the success it is today.

First, a genuine thank you to you, our readers. For picking it up, reading it cover to cover (or just the bits that interest you), passing it on, and stopping us in the street to say what you liked – or what we’d got wrong. This magazine has always been about community, and it only exists because you’ve supported it.

Now, a small change – and a good one.

The magazine has been sold and is moving into its next chapter, but its heart remains the same. Jude is stepping up as editor, working with the new owners, and taking the magazine forward. After ten years behind the scenes, she cares deeply about keeping it local, relevant and familiar.

For Rachel, it’s time to step aside, and enjoy being slightly lighter on deadlines and heavy bags of magazines. For Jude, it’s an exciting next step. So this is a thank you, a handover, and a promise that the magazine you know isn’t going anywhere.

The Go Local story

Independent & Proud

Go Local is an independent magazine and directory of truly local services for businesses and services covering Ripponden, Sowerby Bridge, Elland, Greetland, Stainland and Outlane.

Go Local was launched in 2005. The magazine aims to promote truly local businesses to local people – like yourself!

Local Values

The magazine is edited by Jude, with support from a small, friendly, and dedicated team.

Jude has lived most of her life in and around the Greetland and Barkisland areas and has been part of Go Local for nearly ten years. Before becoming editor, she taught English and maths to members of the armed forces. She has also run a small business in Elland, which gives her a genuine understanding of the challenges local businesses face when trying to reach potential customers.

Go Local is proudly independent and not part of a franchise. The team is passionate about producing a truly local, authentic community magazine that connects residents with local businesses and plays a small but meaningful part in supporting local business growth.
