Halifax Comedy Festival (21-29 October 2016)
If you love live comedy on your doorstep then you definitely want to head to The Halifax Comedy Festival this October.
Kicking off on Friday 21st October with Jimmy Carr, The Halifax Comedy Festival is bringing some of the best comedy talent to Halifax for 9 days of comedic splendour, including some key Edinburgh Fringe shows!
Taking place in 8 venues across Halifax, this alternative festival brings you some exceptional artists. We have the oldest working comedienne; 82 years young Lynne Ruth Miller, proving that age is more than a number; it’s years of experience on which to base some hilarious comedy! We also have the tiniest comedienne; Tanyalee Davis, who at 3”6’ proves that the best things do come in small packages. You can see Lynne and Tanyalee in Nutty Roast at Square Chapel on Sunday 23rd, along with quirky comedian Addy Van Der Borgh.
For a real treat, the enchanting Halifax Minster is playing host to some fine stand up on Monday 24th, with ‘Chaser’, Paul Sinha, Dave’s One Night Stand favourite Rob Rouse and Peter Kay’s funnier mate, Steve Royle, all brought together by renowned compere Tony Vino.
Also on Tuesday 25th we have The Unique Komedy Ukulele Orchestra at the Victoria Theatre, for those who love a good, fun, feel good musical show.
Other unique shows direct from the Fringe include ‘The Dark Room’ at the MBi Shay Stadium on Wednesday 27th and ‘The Noise Next Door’ at Arden Road Social Club on Thursday 28th. Also at Arden Road you can catch ‘Two’, a Jim Cartwright play brought to you by Halifax’s own Neil Hurst.
If you’re wanting to expand your comedy knowledge you can learn all about where comedy started with ‘Comic Roots’, a series of films and a talk at the Victoria Theatre on the 24th,25th and 26th October. You can even learn how to become a comic writer in a series of workshops with sitcom writer, Marc Blake.
The Halifax Comedy Festival is also an affordable way to take in some top class comedy. Kickin Comedy at the MBi Shay Stadium gives you a taster of 4 stand-up comedians for just £12.50! Cokey Falcow, Dominic Woodward, Kate Lucas and Seymour Mace provide a great mix of cool, classic, quirky and musical comedy in one night.
With over 22 stand-up comedians, including headliners Romesh Ranganathan, Al Murray, James Acaster and Andrew Lawrence, The Halifax Comedy Festival is a must attend event this autumn.
