The premises of George Mitchell, auctioneer and valuer, known locally, for obvious reasons as the Crystal Palace, are on the left in this photograph of Ripponden. This is where Tollhouse Jewellers are now situated. In 1871 with the lifting of the toll on the Elland Turnpike Road, George Mitchell bought the Toll Bar House and rebuilt it on top of his premises.
